Shape the Face of Cancer Treatment at Luminate Medical
Luminate Medical is on a mission to change the way we experience cancer care. We design and build products that eliminate the side effects of cancer treatment in a comfortable, portable and effective way. We’re currently building our flagship product Lily, a wearable medical device to prevent the hair loss caused by chemotherapy, and Lilac, our next-in-portfolio product to prevent peripheral nerve damage in chemotherapy patients.
We’re looking for an R&D Engineer to become the next key player in our R&D team. You will be a core contributor to our fast-moving and growing product design and engineering team. You will be a part of the team leading the usability and aesthetic design of consumer-facing medical devices for cancer patients and providing mechanical design input across the entire design cycle from early-stage innovation to market translation.
This position requires a driven personality who wants to grow and become the R&D team subject expert on design. The ideal candidate will be empathetic to user needs and articulate in expressing mechanical solutions. Above all, you will need a passion to finding creative and patient-focused solutions to complex mechanical challenges, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, and thrive in taking responsibility for ensuring innovations are translated from concepts into real world products.
Working at Luminate Medical
-
This is a key early hire at a rapidly growing company. You will have an opportunity to shape the development of multiple high-impact patient-facing products and gain first-hand insights into the growth of a start-up.
-
We offer a highly competitive salary comparable with multinational medical device companies (available on application), a flexible benefits package, alongside a company laptop, headphones, camera and teamwear.
-
We believe in quality of life in our products and for our people, offering flexible working hours and a generous vacation policy.
What You Will Do:
-
Contribute to the mechanical design of patient-focused cancer care products from idea to manufacture, including:
-
Generating new design ideas and resolving design challenges by using strong understanding of fundamental engineering and design principles.
-
Utilising CAD tools such as CREO and SolidWorks to realise product designs.
-
Communicating design decisions, interpreting literature and test results, and influencing design direction.
-
Producing 2D CAD drawings detailing design components and assemblies for manufacture.
-
Creating component and material specifications.
-
-
Completion of tasks and projects through a methodological and planned approach to product development. Testing, analysis and development of design concepts for novel medical devices through:
-
Designing and building prototypes and test fixtures to prove concept effectiveness.
-
Creating test methods utilising electronic test systems and control systems to improve test repeatability.
-
Working with users to test product designs in the real world, documenting insights and iterating on concepts.
-
Predicting design outcomes through mathematical calculations, digital analysis, and physical design experimentation.
-
Keeping detailed records of design and testing development work.
-
Carrying out testing for Design Verification and Validation
-
Creating technical documentation according to the company’s procedures and regulatory requirements.
-
-
Take responsibility for the delivery of tasks and project goals in a timely fashion by working closely with, guiding, and building relationships with external suppliers and manufacturing partners, managing their time effectively and maintaining agreed timelines.
